Amazonia Smile

Everything can kill you
and everything
can give you life

the plants, the worms
the frogs, the ants
your smile

your smile

I was trudging through mud
up to my ankles
drenched in rain and in fear
and yet in wonder too
when I thought of
your smile

I was standing in the canopy
looking at the mist
rise from the forest
like a great and terrible angel
calling me to judgment
when I thought of
your smile

your smile

Everything can give you life
and everything
can kill you
