Jesus, My Brother

Did you give your life for me
that I might be a better man?

Where once there was a cartoon superhero
or a flaccid piñata
now I see myself
pockmarked and flawed
but undeniably real
resplendent in my humanity

And is that the meaning
of the mystery?

That only through suffering
through loss
can enlightenment be gained
